Lifestyle Changes AKA Food Without A Face

IN OTHER NEWS...

I have been a card-carrying vegetarian for about six months!

Why, you ask?
What do you have against bacon, you ask?
Haven't you ever eaten BACON before?
Are you some sort of communist, or something?
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!

I get it.
I mean...  I did get it.

Meat tastes great!
Uh.

Hehe...  Well, this is a strange, strange-meat-loving sort of beginning to a post where I'm supposed to be talking about how I don't eat animals anymore.
...I digress?

I didn't really set out to become a <dun dun DUN...> vegetarian.

Little by little, I started to realize that my body was talking to me.  I didn't like the feeling of finishing meals and needing to pop an antacid pill.  I didn't like feeling so full after meals.  I also felt like I was way too old be suffering from break-outs.  I had tried everything my dermatologist could think of.  Pills, lotions, creams...  I was beginning to think this was all being caused by something else.  I may have been right...

I credit the success I've had to sticking to this to weaning myself off really slowly.  I would say about two years ago my husband and I started to reduce the meat we were eating and dramatically increase our grains and greens.  No white foods/ starchy foods, basically not putting anything in your mouth that doesn't give something back to your body.  We started out going COMPLETELY meatless on Mondays {here's that post}.  And we were totally loving it. I adored all the new meals we were  suddenly coming up with.

I could talk to you about the ethical reasons as well.  The thing is, you can tell people that vegetarianism makes you feel wonderful, and they'll honestly be really really happy for you!  "I just have so much more energy", or "My skin has cleared up almost entirely!" 'That's great', they'll say!  On the other hand, when they ask you why you don't eat meat, and you answer with something along the lines of "Do you know anything about factory farms?"  Even if your reasons are purely based on research and fact, there must be something about the words "cruelty-free meat" and "ethical treatment" that tend to make the other person get that glazed over look in their eye as they tune you out, make a mental note that you're looney and go back to their hot dog.  Most people don't want to know where their meat came from, and that's okay too.  Ignorance is bliss? Not sure about that, but it doesn't really matter. ;)

Bottom line~ diets are a really personal thing.

I'm not saying that this is for everyone, but I have more energy.  While my skin is by far 'perfect' it has never looked better[yay!]~ and I've even lost a few pounds so far!  Im feeling great, and because of that, I'm sticking with this as long as I'm feeling this good.  Please enjoy your food, and I'll enjoy mine~ and if you happen to want any good vegetarian recipes, I'll be sharing some of my favorites along the way. Peace!

  1. I have recently started a gluten free diet, as recommended by a doctor and am slowly feeling better and better. It is amazing, you really are what you eat I guess:)
